Letter to the ACT Minister for Health and Disability on COVID-19

Published on June 24, 2024

AFI have written to Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA as Minister for Health, Minister for Disability and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs regarding the current COVID-19 situation in the ACT. We also sent a copy to the Chair of the Governments Disability Reference Group.

It is our view that swiftly deteriorating circumstances now require ACT Health to urgently adjust community settings and responses to align with the shift in Canberra Health Services alert level to ensure that people with disabilities are safe and have the resources to attempt to minimise health risks.   We suggest the encouragement of masks in places where people with disability need to live or receive vital services, the restored supply of RAT tests to people in settings and who are receiving disability supports in the community along with work to ensure vaccines are promptly available including to patients at the University of Canberra Rehabilitation Hospital.  Please read the letter here (includes redacted contact details).
