submission to the Inquiry into Disability Inclusion Bill 2024

Published on April 10, 2024

AFI have made a submission to the Inquiry into Disability Inclusion Bill 2024 by the Standing Committee on Education and Community Inclusion.  Our Submission supports the Bill from Suzanne Orr MLA which would provide a useful framework for whole of government work on inclusion including the efforts already underway in health, justice and education.   It would also require the implementation of access and inclusion plans covering issues like employment and customer facing services.  It would also embed a requirement to consult the community in legislation.   We note that Action Plans and Strategies are only effective when there is clear policy intent, leadership and intent.  We also propose minor amendments to ensure the voice of representative Disabled Peoples Organizations are included when setting priorities and providing advice to Ministers.  You can also find the submission on the Committee homepage here   Submission-12-Advocacy-for-Inclusion.pdf (act.gov.au)
