Advocacy for Inclusion have made a submission to the Federal Inquiry into Long COVID and Repeated COVID Infections by the Federal House Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport. The submission continues and progresses our work on COVID including through the White Paper on COVID and the Shared Statement which we will be presenting at the December meeting of the Federal COVID-19 Disability Advisory Committee which reports to the Chief Medical Officer. In this latest submission we highlight the likely prevalence of Long COVID, the need to recognise Long COVID as a disability, the necessity of steps to reduce the prevalence of Long COVID, to support people with long COVID with disability supports and to recover and rehabilitate. We particularly urge Governments to take lessons from other disabilities in responding early to improve quality of life and ensure service systems are sustainable. We also call for a research agenda around long COVID, its management and its disability intersections. We highlight the need for contingency funding to be set aside by Governments to ensure we can manage and mitigate long COVID and ensure that people with the condition are treated with compassion, support and decency. The submission is also on the inquiry website (no 336) along with other submissions here. You can also read our full submission here:
