Advocacy for Inclusion provides independent individual, self and systemic advocacy for people with disabilities.

Advocacy for Inclusion is a Disabled Peoples Organisation which means our board, members and staff are a majority of people with disabilities.

We represent Canberra’s most marginalised and isolated people with disabilities, those with cognitive disabilities and/or significant communication barriers.

We work within a human rights framework and acknowledge the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Advocacy for Inclusion is signed onto the ACT Human Rights Act.

Media Release – 2 February 2016

It’s time to change the way disability is talked about.

It’s time to put innovation into disability.

“Let’s disrupt the assumptions about what disability is and isn’t, what people with disabilities can and can’t do, how it should be spoken about, and who should do the talking,” said Christina Ryan, CEO of Advocacy for Inclusion. “We want to disrupt the way disability is talked about, who does the talking and what the disability community gets to speak about.”

Today Advocacy for Inclusion has launched a year long campaign to start some different and innovative thinking about disability.

Each month #disabilitydisrupt will focus on a different topic.

Anyone can join in via email, twitter, blog, post, or whatever platform they use. “We encourage people to share an article, quote someone, have an opinion, paint a picture to share, or send a photo” continued Ms Ryan, just use #disabilitydisrupt to be part of the conversation”.

Advocacy for Inclusion is encouraging:

  • People with disabilities to say what they think
  • Organisations to talk about their work
  • Experts/professionals in the theme area to contribute guest articles
  • Everyone to think differently and start talking
