Advocacy for Inclusion provides independent individual, self and systemic advocacy for people with disabilities.

Advocacy for Inclusion is a Disabled Peoples Organisation which means our board, members and staff are a majority of people with disabilities.

We represent Canberra’s most marginalised and isolated people with disabilities, those with cognitive disabilities and/or significant communication barriers.

We work within a human rights framework and acknowledge the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Advocacy for Inclusion is signed onto the ACT Human Rights Act.

Advocacy for Inclusion welcomes expressions of interest from students who wish to undertake research into how the law interacts with people with disabilities.

We draw your attention to our Strategic Plan  which outlines our areas of priority and connects to various articles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

In expressing interest please outline the following (no more than 500 words):

1. Who you are and the current status of your studies (i.e. third year law at Australian National University majoring in X)

2. The parameters of your placement and how many hours per week you will devote to it

3. What area of the law you would like to explore – please make this section the main focus of your EOI outlining the area of law, what specifically you wish to explore, and why you think this is an important area for research for disability rights.

4. How this relates to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and/or any other international rights instruments.

Please note: we are not able to accept all EOIs. If you are successful in progressing to the next stage of being accepted for placement we will contact you for an interview. At this stage we will ask you for specific information about what is expected from your placement and details about who we would be liaising with at your educational institution.

We are happy to accept EOIs throughout the year and will take placements according to our capacity to accommodate you at the time, and your proposal's alignment with our strategic priorities.

If you would like more information on undertaking your placement with Advocacy for Inclusion please contact us via lawcentre@advocacyforinclusion.org
